A conversation with Governor Mitch Daniels

Mountain States Policy Center recently had the opportunity to have a conversation with former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels to discuss his thoughts on spending discipline, health care reforms, improving education outcomes, higher education affordability, regulatory reforms, and the national budget outlook.

Governor Daniels has been at the forefront of constructively addressing these policy issues during his impressive career as a Senior Advisor to President Ronald Reagan, Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under President George W. Bush, Governor of Indiana, President of Purdue University, and holding executive roles at Eli Lilly and Company and the Hudson Institute.

Among his many policy accomplishments:

  • Freezing student tuition and fees for over a decade at Purdue University;

  • Enacting state and national tax cuts;

  • Right-sizing Indiana’s budget to eliminate an inherited budget deficit;

  • Signing a Right to Work law for Indiana;

  • Using automatic tax refunds with surplus revenues;

  • Requiring a customer service mentality in Indiana government and regulations; and

  • Strengthening Indiana’s business climate.

We are very grateful for the Governor’s time with us and for his ongoing public service.
