Director, Bill & Milly Kay Baldwin Center for Education

Job Summary:
Are you pumped about education reform? Are you committed to advancing outcomes for all children? The Bill and Milly Kay Baldwin Center for Education is a newly launched initiative of Mountain States Policy Center, focused on advancing and securing transformative education policy in Idaho and beyond. Named in honor of two lifelong champions for children and education, the Baldwin Center promotes education choice, academic transparency, and high-quality education for all students. The Center conducts research, produces policy recommendations, and serves as a hub for public engagement and thought leadership on education issues. The full time director of the Baldwin Center will be the region’s top education expert, focused initially on the implementation of major reforms including House Bill 93 – Idaho’s first education choice tax credit. As part of our commitment to improving outcomes, the director will assist with outreach to schools, families, and community organizations to raise awareness and participation, as well as track success in the program.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist families, schools and public in understanding and implementation of Idaho’s Parental Choice Tax Credit
-
Coordinate and participate in community events, including fairs, expos, and informational meetings, to raise awareness and availability of choice options including the Idaho Parental Choice Tax Credit

Work with schools and community organizations to ensure ongoing engagement and smooth program implementation

Maintain a database of leads and schools, coordinating follow-up communication to ensure ongoing engagement

Collaborate with key stakeholders to support statewide outreach and monitor program progress

Long term, responsible for publications and research materials related to education policy issues that are produced and distributed by the organization

Works with other organization researchers and the Vice President and Director of Research

Gives frequent public speeches and media interviews

Covers, understands and is fluent in education policy issues that impact Idaho and the region
-
Testifies before legislative committees when requested
-
Frequently meets with lawmakers to provide policy information
-
Advances key priorities of the organization via local leaders and national network
-
Becomes known as voice for free markets in state capitols and communities

Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in a public policy related field such economics, political science, or a similar field
-
Proven experience in policy research, program management, event coordination, or a related role, preferably within the nonprofit or public policy sectors

Strong understanding of education policy and free-market principles and a commitment to advancing these ideals in the policy arena

Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on driving results and achieving program goals

Regional travel required

Compensation:

Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Remote, based in Boise-area

Schedule: Flexible, 40 Hours Per Week total
-
Health benefits: MSPC first-year employees are provided with 75% coverage of high-deductible HSA plan (employee responsible for 25% of premium), with a health savings account that will be funded by the employee and matched by the organization up to $1,000 per year

401K retirement: Generous retirement plan available, including match of up to 4% of yearly contributions after three months of service

Vacation: Unlimited PTO as approved by supervisor, 12 paid holidays a year

Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000, based on qualifications and experience
